Verizon Nexus One Will Feature Sense UI Over Google Experience [Leaked Internal Verizon Documents Confirms Sense UI, Android Fans Revolt]

As we reported, it’s a bit of an open secret that Google’s flagship Nexus One phone will be coming to Verizon and Vodafone – but while the first Nexus One from T-Mobile came with the “stock” Android UI, a leaked Verizon internal document confirms that the Verizon edition of the phone will come with HTC’s Sense UI. Internet reaction has been mixed. A Verizon employee snapped a picture of a Verizon intranet site that lists the Sense UI as coming on the Nexus One. Because the Android OS is customizable, we’ve seen a few phone manufacturers like HTC, Samsung and Motorola add their own UI wrapper on top of the OS to add a distinct differentiation to their phones. The Nexus One from T-Mobile, while it was made by HTC, passed on including the Sense UI in favor of ’stock’ Android. The internet reaction to the news as been mixed, as you might imagine. Some people dislike the stock Google Experience UI and are pleased to see the Sense UI included. Some sites have reported that phones with the Sense UI are slower to get OTA updates because HTC has to incorporate the update with their UI layer. Some are questioning the accuracy of this leak considering Google has said they want the Nexus One to be the ‘purest’ Android phone out there, in terms of modifications and fragmentation. It’s possible that this is a typo, or possibly some preset that automatically is added to every HTC phone on Verizon’s intranet site. Taking it at face value, how do you feel about the Sense UI being included on the Verizon Nexus One? Video: Android hacked in place of Windows Mobile on a Touch Pro2

While a lot of people are pretty pumped about Windows Phone 7 , there are some people who definitely are not : everyone stuck on a now antiquated Windows Mobile 6.5 handset. Microsoft has already confirmed that if your phones running 6.5, it’s not going to be running 7 any time soon. If you can’t join’em, beat’em, right? There’s a new project in the works which aims to breath new life into old Windows Mobile 6.5 phones.. by replacing the whole OS with Android. As you can see in the video above, they’ve already managed to jam the OS onto an HTC TouchPro2. (Fun Fact: I’ve wanted an HTC TouchPro 2 running Android since before the TouchPro 2 officially existed. I’ll be buying one purely for hacking this onto it.) It’s not perfect just yet, but it’s damn near it; data works, SMS works, calling works, and that glorious, glorious hardware keyboard works. They’ve also got it up and running in various forms of functionality on the HTC Diamond2 (AT&T Pure), HD, Diamond, and the original Touch Pro. Ready to get your hack on? Pocketnow has all the download links you need to get started.

Google’s Mobile Product Search Now Shows Real-Time Local Inventory

Google just announced that the mobile version of Google Product Search can now tell you if a certain product is in stock at nearby stores. Currently, Google is only working with a handful of retailers, including Best Buy, Sears, Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn and West Elm, but the company is actively looking for more partners. To see these results, just browse to Google.com on your mobile phone (Android, WebOS or Android), click the "more" link and then "Shopping." The local inventory will be updated in real time and is currently only available for users in the U.S. Sponsor Google obviously thinks that providing the best local results possible is the future for a large number of its services. Now that most modern mobile browsers can forward your location data to web apps, it's become even easier for Google to offer these kinds of local results and Google's initiatives around Google Maps and Place Pages show how serious the company is about local search. For now, with this small number of participating retailers, this isn't necessarily the most useful feature yet. If Google actually manages to get more businesses to use this feature (and/or to expose their inventory through an API), then Google Product Search - which has remained relatively underused - could easily establish itself as the go-to local shopping service. For more details about the mobile version of Google Product Search, have a look at this video (the introduction of Product Search starts about 19 minutes into the presentation) Discuss

Sony Ericsson X10 unboxed by — who else — Sony Ericsson

Guys, guys, look: unboxing is our job. We know it's fun and we know it brings eyeballs to your site, but we think your customers would be better served if you just concentrated on shipping the mighty X10 rather than teasing them with a product they can't yet have. Apparently, Sony Ericsson just took delivery of its first commercial samples of its inaugural Android device, so to kick off the occasion in style, a couple staffers have unboxed them in glorious high definition for us -- both the white and black versions, mind you -- using none other than their own Vivaz to maximize the meta factor. There's not a lot to the video, really (even the captions are disappointingly accurate ), but if you're truly desperate for X10 eye candy as you wait for the retail launch, it's worth a gander. Full video after the break. Ubuntu hits HTC’s Touch Pro2, is any Windows Mobile handset safe? (video)

If there's one thing we're pretty sure Windows Phone 7 Series will be worse at than its Windows Mobile precursor it's in the running of various and sundry other operating systems. We've seen Android running on seemingly every WinMo handset ever created and more recently Ubuntu has been receiving the mobile treatment. Last month it was on an Xperia X1 , now an HTC Touch Pro2 is getting a taste. A modder who goes by the handle sebbo90 is the one responsible for this, running basically the same technique as used earlier on the X1. It looks quite easy: just download a 200MB zip, extract it to your phone, then run an exe within. A few moments later you'll be in open source heaven, and, from what we can tell looking at the video below, it works remarkably well. Now, if you'll excuse us, we have to hit up eBay to find a used handset and get hacking. Continue reading Ubuntu hits HTC's Touch Pro2, is any Windows Mobile handset safe?

Irgendwann in ihrer Roboter Zukunft… Click here to view the embedded video.
