Two New ARCHOS Android Tablets Coming, One Updated
It looks like ARCHOS are keeping on top of their Android obligations and future opportunities: in addition to providing a firmware update to the ARCHOS 5 , word out of Germany is that the company will soon launch two new Android Tablets. Carrypad.com heard from the company’s German PR firm who made a statement translating to: Archos will introduce two brand new, good value Android Tablets that are specially designed for use in the home. We already know the ARCHOS 7 is in the works and we’re unsure if this is one of the two, but that answer is probably yes. What is the other one? We have no clue but we’re sure to keep you updated!

HTC Desire Running HTC Sense [VIDEO]
The most powerful Android Phone on the market and HTC Sense – a pretty killer combination – and the guys at GSMarena provide a quick 2-minute overview that is sure to leave you drooling: They show the optical joystick being used to scroll home screens which seems a little odd given the huge touchscreen above but I suppose an extra option can’t hurt. I’m liking the Helicopter View which would be awesome if you had maybe 10+ screens with full screen widgets. The FriendStream integration looks pretty good as well, it’ll be interesting to see how it compares to MOTOBLUR which some thought was information overload. I suppose it depends what type of Social Networking user you are. By the way… DANG Sense looks nice on that screen.

MOTOBLUR For Your TV Could Be Coming Soon
In a logical turn of events, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that its looking to add their MOTOBLUR application to TV boxes as early as next year. CEO Sanjay Jha admitted the company is looking for ways to combine the features of set-top boxes and mobile phones soon after the 2 units were, together, separated from the wireless networking business as 2 separate entities. It SEEMS logical, but Motorola hasn’t always acted logically, and Sanjay Jha seems to be making yet another move to help a blossoming yet recently struggling Motorola. If you’re wondering why the heck anyone would want their television to run MOTOBLUR, you should know that the future of home entertainment is based on connectedness, with products and services like Boxee . If your television is equipped with all the media from your home computer, your contacts from your phone whether docked or connecting via bluetooth or Wi-FI, the purpose of your television can be re-thought and re-invented to take into account previously unimaginable scenarios. In a way… that last sentence is exactly what Android is all about. I hope Motorola pursues this aggressively and I’m eager to see what solutions they bring to market.

Skype & Verizon Deal Exclusive For 2-3 Years?
This could potentially be a biggie: Om Malik asked Skype and Verizon CEO’s about the details of their deal and whether or not Skype would work with other US carriers, but they dodged the question. They can evade but they cannot hide I suppose – Malik tapped some of his own sources who had some VERY interesting things to say about the new partnership: The deal, my sources tell me, is an exclusive partnership between the two that will last for a period of 2-3 years. No other U.S. carrier is going to get a similar Skype offering – which also bolsters my theory that Skype can help Verizon distinguish itself amongst smartphone offerings, especially the iPhone. Don’t forget that Skype has an iPhone app so you’ve got to wonder how that plays into the picture. How do you Verizon customers feel, you know, the ones who are used to getting things last and having the door closed on you? How about non-Verizon customers who were hoping for Skype to come to their service offerings? This is by no means a done deal so let’s be patient and wait, maybe 2-3 years, to see who else announces a Skype service plan.

Sprint 4G Phone Coming By Summer, Android-Based HTC Supersonic?
While 3G connectivity becomes the norm, techie consumers and carriers themselves have their eyes on 4G technology. Sprint already has WiMax 4G internet service in 27 markets, but taking that to mobile phone users – who are… mobile – is a different story. Sprint was rumored to be launching a WiMax 4G phone in late 2010 but it appears that timeline may have just moved up. Forbes is reporting that Sprint executives are planning to launch a 4G handset in the first half of 2010. Dan Hesse has said 2010 will be “the year of 4G” and after MWC it seems it will also be the year of Android… so will this handset be the Android-based HTC SuperSonic with WiMax 4G connectivity ? Time will tell but it seems like a logical move for all parties involved. Right now Sprint doesn’t seem to have much of an “angle” on consumers and launching an Android-based 4G handset would be a pretty big move for them. I wouldn’t call it a “win” because Verizon continues to work on their high-speed LTE network as does T-Mobile. But at least it will keep them in the hunt. Not to mention – the render looks pretty slick. UPDATE: While some think this is awesome, others say it doesn’t make much sense .

Vodafone’s HTC Magic Now Features Market App Promos – Does Yours?
While on my occasional browse of the Android Market I noticed something that hadn’t appeared before – on my market at least. There were promotional images for some apps. So I’ve done some digging and it seems others with the Vodafone UK HTC Magic are having the same thing happening for them. Here’s an example of before & after: Nothing major but interesting to see, I know some other Android phones already have this but it’s good to see it has just appeared. I would think though this is just for devices with 1.6+ so sorry cupcake users. Has your phone market just got this? I didn’t notice any other additions though , do you?

All 5 Major UK Networks To Offer the HTC Desire
I have a feeling the HTC Desire is gong to be big in the UK – We recently spread the word UK networks Orange and T-mobile will be stocking the Android 2.1 based phones and now I’m pleased to tell you O2 , Vodafone and 3 have joined the ranks offering it too! This means all 5 ‘major’ UK networks will be carrying it - what a choice to have…….. Of course , if you don’t want to be tied down to a contract you can always purchase it sim-free and unlocked from eXpansys . Some networks haven’t given exact dates yet but what we do know so far is that T-mobile is expected to be the first with an planned release date of March 26th with Network 3 dishing theirs around “spring time” . We can expect to see the HTC Desire with Orange and Vodafone around April & O2 is yet to give an date. In case you don’t know the HTC Desire was codenamed as the HTC Bravo and is essentially the Nexus One but features HTC’s Sense UI and an distinct optical track pad for navigation. Did we mention that some are customised? – According to Network 3 their HTC Desire packs in Skype, Windows Live Messenger, Email on 3 and Twitter as well as an Facebook app. We also know the Vodafone version has their own Vodafone 360 apps on their- which are currently available on the Android Market for free if you want to have a peek. I wonder what the other networks have customised their handsets with if any? We haven’t had much confirmation of the Pricing yet ( except Orange , who will be offering it free) but we’ll keep you posted! With all these operators stocking the desire, lets hope to see some competition price wise. Are you interested in purchasing a Desire?

Moto Droid Running On “Official” 2.1 Update?
Big props goes out to our friend Chas who sent us this video this morning of a Motorola Droid running on the “official” Android 2.1 update. Apparently, Pete over at Android Overdrive got a hold of what he is reporting to be the official 2.1 Droid update. Chas says: Developer for the Droid, Pete, has managed to get a hold of the official 2.1 Droid update from Verizon. Still having trouble making a working ROM but it will be ready soon. Pretty interesting stuff! Pete reports in the forum that he has had it running for 3 days now and has no bugs to report. There are also some discussions about this being an earlier build of the upcoming Official Verizon 2.1 Update. I suppose only time will tell if this is a leaked version of the official update or an earlier build. Either way, this is pretty cool and should quench your thirst for some Moto Droid 2.1 action, at least until the official update is pushed. Anyone gonna jump the gun and install this “official” update? Let us know how it works for you. PS: There are a bunch of folks talking about this in the AF Droid Forum [via Android Overdrive ]

Oversized Motorola Devour Display Arriving In Stores
Nothing screams device launch like oversized promotional displays and that’s exactly what we’re seeing from the Motorola Devour today. An anonymous tipster sent us the following picture of a larger-than-life Motorola Devour that would be more suitable for the giant in Jack And The Beanstalk: In true Phandroid form, the picture above was snapped with an OG-classic G1 at a 3rd party retailer who sells Verizon phones. If this “display” was an actual, working Android Phone I’m about 95% sure I would walk around with it and use it for at least a week out of pure awesomeness. And who knows, maybe it would be my own little “iPad”.
