Mobile Version Flash Still Not Ready

If you are wondering about why Steve Jobs refuse to use Adobe Flash in his Apple gadget, it might not be just because of his doubtful nature. We have been waiting for a while for Android 2.2 Froyo to bring the full Flash experience to Android devices, but the end results are far from impressive. Over at GigaOM they have made a video trying to run various things on a Nexus One with Froyo, and found that mobile version Flash still not ready to show in that Android device. This mobile version Flash has proved to be a daunting task for Adobe to scale down and port over to mobile devices. Video playback on a lot of popular news and video websites was hit and miss, and basically the moral of those stories are that the videos still have to be specifically optimized for mobile viewing that sometimes misses the real purpose. Actually for Adobe Flash 10.1 on Froyo, we can noticed that there is actual improvement that displaying interactive charts, like those of Google finance for example, which before were not exactly interactive. But Google recently optimized the site for mobile, so maybe that was the cause. So we can only wait whether the mobile version Flash will be great for Froyo, or will it be bad? Fashionistas use myTouch on ‘Project Runway’

Heidi Klum and her fellow cohorts on Lifetime's " Project Runway " were spotted this week using the HTC Magic -- or better known as the myTouch 3G here in the U.S. We're not quite people of fashion here at Android Central, but maybe these fashionistas could consult with the always properly dressed, Ari Gold , and learn about the popular and never out of style -- Nexus One . Just saying ... Thanks, Andrew! Posted originally at Android Central Sponsored by Android Cases and Accessories

Developers buy out remaining Nexus One stock

Some sad news today from the Android Developers Blog: the Nexus One is out of stock. We’ve known for some time that the supply for the general public had run dry , but the blow was alleviated by the fact that the phone would continue to be available to developers. Well, that was the plan, at least. A couple of weeks ago, we arranged that registered developers could buy an unlocked Nexus One via their publisher page in Android Market. We think it’s a good development platform and a nice phone. Apparently, you agree. Somewhat too many of you, in fact; we blew through the (substantial) initial inventory in almost no time, and they’re back-ordered from HTC, who are doing a pretty good job of managing runaway success amid a worldwide AMOLED shortage. Everyone appreciates that it’s important to the platform to get phones in the hands of developers, so we’re working hard on re-stocking the shelves; stand by. Tim Bray Android Developers Blog Hopefully they’ll be able to get their hands on another batch and meet the demand but with screen shortages and a new phone coming out every few weeks there’s no telling how long we could be waiting. It’s Friday, boys. Pour one out for the best phone your friends have never heard of. One Click Root? Nexus One Does That Too

If you just nabbed a Nexus One either through Google’s developer dashboard or some other means, you may still be interested in rooting it. Although rooting the Nexus One is a lot easier than most other Android handsets to date, there’s just something about the ease of a one-click solution that makes rooting it a worry-free process. The exploit it uses to root the device is the same exploit that was used to root the Motorola Droid X (using UniversalAndroot). UniversalAndroot actually support several other devices with the Nexus One being the latest added into the mix. The app comes with built-in unroot functionality, as well, and will also help you install custom ROMs. The best part? It’s free to download. Head on over to XDA to get started. [ Thanks, Matt. ]

T-Mobile USA sees strong smartphone growth

After reporting their quarterly earnings this week, T-Mobile USA made it clear that smartphones are here to stay, seeing subscriptions triple year-on-year despite losing customers overall. Users with 3G-capable smartphones are now 19 percent of the entire T-Mobile USA subscriber base, with subscriptions over tripling to 6.5 million from 2.1 million in the Q2 2009. T-Mobile noted its most popular smartphones included Android devices like the MyTouch 3G and Nexus One , as well as the BlackBerry Bold and HTC HD2 , which use the BlackBerry OS and Windows Mobile operating systems, respectively. During the quarter, T-Mobile upgraded its network to HSPA+, giving some T-Mobile users faster data than even Sprint's 4G networks. 15 cities, covering 85 million people, now have access to T-Mobile's HSPA+ upgrade. By the end of the year the company says it hopes to have HSPA+ available to 185 million Americans. Overall, the carrier saw a decline in subscriptions , due to a high rate of decline in the prepaid business. The company lost 199,000 prepaid subscribers while only gaining 106,000 contract customers. Permalink | Comments

Droid 2 Gets Benchmarked in the Wild, Just as Fast as All the Others

The Motorola Droid 2 isn’t expected to launch until sometime later this month, but enough geeks have gotten their hands on the device that we’re already starting to see Quadrant benchmarks for it pop-up. The Droid 2 tested here definitely seems to be FroYo-based as it nearly surpasses an Android 2.2-enabled Nexus One . We expected as much considering the bump in speed it’s gotten over its predecessor (1GHz processor compared to 550MHz). Even with Motorola’s custom skin apparently not going anywhere, it doesn’t look like it’s doing anything to bog it down with the JIT-injected FroYo doing its job. [via IntoMobile ]

Anyone else excited about the Nokia N8

Coming soon to the US. Personally I think it's highly underrated. Even though I gave a Nexus One I miss Nokia's great phones. They just don't have anything really in the market to compete till this. I'm concern about the Symbian OS however as this will be the only one running on it. Nonetheless this will be a great device.

HTC Ships Final Order of Nexus One

It’s a sad day in the world of Android. HTC has shipped Google its last shipment of the more-or-less official Android flagship device, the Nexus One. It feels not unlike the last episode of a favorite television show, watching Sam shut off the lights and lock the door of his beloved bar, Cheers.

Google-Chef Schmidt: Es wird kein Nexus Two geben

In einem Interview mit der Online-Ausgabe der britischen Tageszeitung Daily Telegraph sagte Google-Chef Eric Schmidt klar, dass es kein Google Nexus Two geben werde.
