I'm really not sure why Motorola saw fit to call a cell phone the Bali, because this has about as much to do with the tropical port as I have to do with supermodels. But that's what they've chosen to call this phone, and that's what ...

Motorola says leaked Droid X Android 2.2 build won’t be updated to the official release

Can't say this is a surprise, but Motorola posted a note on its support forums today warning users Droid X users against upgrading to that leaked Android 2.2 build or any of those custom ROMS that're out there -- they'll be cut off from the official upgrade when it hits in early September and potentially "stuck on the leaked version." Ouch. Of course, that's the risk you take when you start flashing your phone with unofficial firmware, but between this, eFUSE , and those cease and desist letters , it certainly feels like Motorola is decidedly unhappy that anyone would have the gall to hack or tweak one of its handsets, even if the phone in question is the size of a small tank and marketed by aggressive murderous robot hands insisting that it "does" everything one can think of with no restrictions. Contrast that with HTC, which is not only at peace with the hacking community, but even takes the initiative to resolve similar problems. Of course, no one would care about any of this if Motorola would just release stock Android builds for its devices as soon as they're ready, but why learn that lesson when it's possible to waste money developing Blur and adopting painfully annoying staggered OTA rollout schedules at the behest of carriers? That would just be silly. [Thanks, Matthew] Motorola says leaked Droid X Android 2.2 build won't be updated to the official release originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 30 Aug 2010 21:03:00 EDT. With just about every device on the market, it isn’t long before the community gets their hands on it and manages to undo all of the security precautions put forth by the respective manufacturers. Chubby Motorola Charm now available on T-Mobile

The Motorola Charm, a pudgy little Android handset we first heard about in July , is now available for purchase on T-Mobile. Here is a quick recap of what the Charm is working with: quad-band GSM, HSDPA 3.6 Mbps, 3 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS, and 2.8-inch touchscreen display; the device will also be sporting Motorola’s MOTOBLUR UI overlay. The full-QWERTY, candy bar shaped phone can be yours — in a red cabernet or golden bronze — for just $74.99 with a 2-year contract. The two links are after the jump. Exclusive: Motorola MB520 ‘Kobe’ boasts a Droid X-esque UI, AT&T affinity

What is Motorola Kobe? The device, also known by its model number MB520, seems to be popping up on a couple of certification websites. UPnP Forum certified it on June 16, 2010 (listed as "Kobe ATT"), and additionally on July 8th the smartphone quietly got a thumbs up from the WiFi Alliance for single band (2.4GHz) 802.11b/g/n. Of course, an IEEE standard does not a phone make, and so we've been in touch with a trusted source who's provided us with specifications of the device, as well as screencaps of some benchmarks results and the all-important About Phone page. The Kobe is a slate-style smartphone currently featuring Android 2.1 with a Motoblur skin reminiscent of Droid 2 / Droid X 's UI. We're told it has a 3.5-inch LCD with 480 x 854 resolution, a 800MHz TI OMAP processor (either 3440 or an underclocked 3630), PowerVR SGX 530 GPU, 512MB RAM, 2GB internal storage and a bundled 2GB microSD card, and a 3 megapixel camera (without flash). It currently comes loaded with Swype, Vlingo, and DNLA support. We gotta say, camera notwithstanding, this sounds like a pretty appealing addition to AT&T's growing Android lineup. Hit up the gallery below for benchmark scores.
