Re: hey i have a question about data usage

Not 100% sure what's being asked here as everyone is interpreting differently.   However, the original question was whether or not MMS used data so I'll assume that's what the original poster wanted to know.   In short, MMS to send a photo does use data to send the photo.  However, this data is covered by the messaging plan, not the data plan.  Therefore, you should not be billed for any data used during the transmission of that photo, and it shouldn't appear on your bill as data usage.   However, disabling all data on your phone (some people like to do this to eliminate extra charges when they don't have a data plan) will keep the phone from properly sending / receiving photo messages.   In short, if you're sending MMS with a messaging plan, you're fine.  If you're worried that sending the photos will bump your data usage, don't worry -- they won't.

iPhone Messaging Unlimited

So apparently iPhone users text more than everyone else so they're going to charge us an extra $5 a month for iPhone Messaging Unlimited when Messaging Unlimited was only $15.   What gives AT&T!?!?!?!?!?!?! :smileymad:

Question about $20 unlimited texting plan and Iphone.

Hey guys I just got off the phone with some guy @ AT&T Wireless customer service, I asked him about the $20 Unlimited texting plan that I have (See  here  ) Anyways I just bought the Apple Iphone 4 and I wanted to know WHERE can I go to use the unlimited IM features that my $20 plan includes? I asked him and he couldn't give me a strait answer. We ended up talking in circles for like 1 hour and 30 mins. What I got from my conversation with him was I can download the app from the Itunes App store and use up all my data plan that I pay $15 for and pay overages... but then he said the messages that I send in that app ARE covered under the plan. He didn't sound to sure about any of this.     I'm so confused.... is the IM feature of the $20 Texting plan not for Iphone 4? Unless I misread, where can I use this Unlimited IM on my IPhone without chiseling away at my data-plan?     The freedom to message any way to anyone Unlimited text, picture, video, and Instant Messaging (IM) messages. Text messaging Private, to-the-point communication Just type the message, pick a wireless phone number, and send Picture and video messaging Share a smile, a cute moment, or that thing you just have to buy Snap the photo or video with your camera phone, pick a mobile phone or email address, and send Instant Messaging Chat real-time with IM on your phone Use AOL® Instant Messenger, Yahoo!®, and Windows Live Messenger®

E71x and mail for exchange problem with "options" menu

Has anyone else experienced this problem?  When I open an email in mail for exchange and press the "options" key, nothing happens. No options appear at all and the phone freezes up for a bit (tho' I can bring it back to the home screen by pressing the red "end" button).  This happens even when mail for exchange is otherwise working fine.  Push emails arrive on schedule, and I can read any email message and scroll up and down.  And xpress email accounts work just fine too.   I have noticed that when I have this problem that my access to the mail for exchange settings is also frozen.  If I try to access the settings--either through the messaging button and then via "settings" in the messaging tool, or through the menu button> messaging> mail for exchange--the phone goes black screen and freezes up for about 30 seconds or so before returning to where it was.   Without being able to access the "options" you can't do much with an email you have open; no forwarding or replying is possible, no retrieval of attachments.  Mail for exchange becomes a message reader, and nothing else.  And with access to mail for exchange settings frozen at the same time, its hard to do much to try to fix the problem.   Restarting the phone and removing the battery all do nothing.  However, after some time...usually many hours....for no apparent reason....everything is back to normal and working fine.  I have no idea what makes the problem go away.  It's great it's not a permanent problem, but I wish I knew what's causing it.  Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Data Plan Required?

A friend gave me her old iphone recently and with my job I really do need to have access to the internet throughout the day.  The problem?  The $30 additional fee that I have to add which is why I haven't activated it yet.  If that plan included Text Messaging that would be fine but the fact that I still have to have a seperate plan for texting at, of course, an additional fee is what is really annoying.   No, not all people can afford that $30/month additional.... and it's not due to spending it on 'crap' it's due to spending it on health insurance (some of us have to pay it on our own, not have our company pay for it) and electric.    Is there a reason why txt isn't included in the $30 plan needed for the iphone other than corporate greed?

Location in the Cloud (Part 1)

I’m a guest blogger this week at the 2010 Where 2.0 conference. I’ve been working with mobile location services and systems since 2000. In lieu of a heavy focus on mobile at Where 2.0 this year, Brady Forrest invited me to write a few words and offer insights into a theme around two emerging areas of mobile location data access—Wireless Location in the Cloud and Social Location in the Cloud. This post is the first in a two-part series.

Re: Text/Emails with Pics

jpakb94 wrote: Im new to the world of IPhone - I have a 3G.  Why can't I send and recieved pics through emails and text messages?     These would be two seperate incidents.   For the Messaging you need to make sure your iPhone is up to date with all the software and carrier patches.  Connect it to iTunes and select your device on the left under the Summary tab select the Check for Update button.  If it is you will have to call ATT and have them verify your account.  Is the issue of sending/receiving messages with everyone or only certain people or certain carriers (like Verizon for instance)?  Your not getting www.viewmymessage.com are you?   For emails what are you receiving?  Is there an odd icon where the image should be?  Have you tried using a different email account?  What about Settings > Mail Contacts and Calendars > Load Remote Images?  Is that set to ON? (this is if the images being sent were not really attached and just link to a website somewhere.

Rogers MyAccount for Android

Rogers has shown their devotion to Android and that they see it as a serious competitor in the mobile industry. How? Approximately a week ago Rogers released a much awaited application for Rogers users that allows one to natively access some of the most used account information. Up until a week ago the only way to access this information was to check MyAccount through the web interface. Features available in this app are: View current Voice, Data, and Messaging use for the month so far Check account balance, billing cycle, and last payment Make a payment directly within application Common help and support issues Available in English and French languages Feedback form This application has been available on iPhone since November with availability coming to more devices such as Blackberry and other smartphones in the near future. I have already found the app a great help in informing me when I'm getting close to exceeding my voice usage, a common problem! I assume that this app will become a standard application that is released with all Rogers Android devices from now on. This application comes amidst a plethora of other great Android news many of you have already hear about this week. This other good news includes the availability of paid apps and the new Nexus One that is compatible with Rogers. Download the MyAccount app from the Android Market because it is one you can't do without. Usage Help+Support Account Balance Might We Suggest... Rumours Say Canada May Have Paid Apps Soon Android is nothing new in Canada and while we don't have a very large selection of different handsets, the average person would be able to tell you what it is. We may be quite excited about Android an...

Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700 updated to 2.1

We first saw a leaked version of 2.1 available on it late last month, but in what is hopefully a sign of things to come the Samsung i5700 has officially made the leap from lowly Android 1.5 to the current pinnacle of Android 2.1. Unfortunately at present the update is only available in Germany and requires that you physically hook up to Samsung’s PC Studio 7 software to download, but according to Samsung the update will be “gradually rolled out to other European markets, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Asia, Africa and rest of the world.” Hopefully they are using the word gradual here to mean over the course of the next few weeks rather than the sometimes nearly geologic time line that word can represent to companies. The full press release is copied below if you are interested and includes the awesomely horrible line that the “smartphone now offers a galaxy of new features….” There isn’t really any indication as to whether all of the features of 2.1 have made it so if any Spica owning Germans in the audience could pipe up with what they are seeing I’m sure the rest of the Spicans would love a glimpse into their future. Samsung Delivers World of New Experiences With Upgraded Galaxy Spica Android 2.1 gives Galaxy Spica new functionality and unrivalled user experience SEOUL, Korea – March 17, 2010 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a leading mobile phone provider, today announced it has upgraded its powerful Galaxy Spica (I5700) smartphone to harness the power of the latest version of AndroidTM, Android 2.1. The smartphone now offers users a galaxy of new features and an unrivalled mobile experience. The Galaxy Spica retains all the features inherent in the successful Galaxy Spica (I5700), such as seamless connectivity and access to GoogleTM mobile services, multimedia functionality and speedy processor performance “Lovers of the Galaxy Spica appreciated the ease with which they could access their contacts and personalise their experience – our upgraded handset offers all this and much more; a rich and rewarding and powerful mobile experience,” said JK Shin, President and Head of the Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics. The upgrade will be available via PC Studio 7, Samsung’s unique in-house software upgrade program. PC Studio 7 was included in the package of Galaxy Spica or can be downloaded at the Samsung mobile website (http://www.samsungmobile.com). Enhanced User Experienced The Galaxy Spica becomes a highly intuitive communications device offering users the option to personalise no less than nine side-scrolling screens. Users can really let their imaginations run wild, creating different home screens according to different personal interests or requirements. The handset now features augmented reality technology that displays real-time digital information of your surroundings over the view-finder of the Galaxy Spica’s 3 megapixel camera. The Galaxy Spica also features Samsung widgets, Visual bookmark and PC Sync support to enable users to synchronise their devices quickly. Enhanced Multimedia and Messaging Functionality The handset now comes with a number of enhanced multimedia features which transform the Galaxy Spica into a personal entertainment device. Media browser allows you to browse through your media collection with ease. The camera has been upgraded to offer enhanced picture options and viewing functionality. Improved messaging functionality means that it is much easier to attach files to MMS and email that users can easily add contacts to messages direct from the phonebook. Improved contact management enables users to find a necessary contact very easily through the alphabetical index. The upgrade will be available from March 2010 in Germany and gradually rolled out to other European markets, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Asia, Africa and rest of the world.
