Htc droid eris receives leaked android 2.1 update… (SlashGear via TechNews AM)

Verizon Droid Eris owners have been hankering after the features only made available for the most recent editions of the Android mobile OS (it’s been running version 1.5 for ages), since the last update failed to deliver anything solid. XDA Developers have leaked an updated build that, through comments, seem to be the real deal. More information after the cut.

Android 2.1 Coming to All U.S. Android Phones? [RUMOR]

Version 2.1 of the Android operating system (which currently powers newer handsets like the Nexus One ) may be coming to older Android phones in the U.S, according to a report. This corroborates some earlier rumors , and comes despite speculation that 2.1 simply wouldn’t fit on older hardware like T-mobile’s G1 handset . The rumor is being reported by Taylor Wimberly of Android and Me , who cites “inside sources familiar with the matter.” Wimberly also notes that not all of the features of the Nexus One will make it to the older phones, such as Live Wallpaper, and that certain handsets may require a clean data wipe before installing 2.1 via PC interface (a departure from previous over-the-air updates that Android users have enjoyed). Given that the most crucial user data stored on Android phones is generally in the cloud (e-mail, contacts calendar) and other apps and files can easily be backed up via SD card, a system wipe in exchange for a shiny new OS seems worthwhile. But questions remain about how older hardware will handle some of the heavier features of 2.1. If the rumors are true, it would be great news for early adopters of Android who now long for the updated features of the Nexus One. What do you think? If available, would you upgrade your old Android phone to 2.1, or simply purchase the newest hardware when you’re ready? Galaxy Spica Gets Android 2.1!

It’s too bad no carriers in the U.S. carry the Samsung I5700 Spica since there has just been a leak; thanks to Mad Ramblings Spica owners can install an Android 2.1 ROM! Some of the features of the ROM are the features we all want to see like the live wallpapers and Google Maps 4.0. Also included in the update is support for multiple accounts, exchange support, and an improved camera app. As always, we recommend you do an unofficial updating to your phone with caution seeing as how it will void your contract with your carrier and potentially lock up or brick your device. Anyhow, I am very excited about this leaked ROM as maybe it is the first of many to come. I know many readers were upset with the lack of live wallpapers for the DROID 2.1 update so maybe there will be a similar unofficial 2.1 updates that bring some extras to your favorite Android device. Let us know if you are successful and like I said before, head over to Mad Ramblings for the instructions on loading the ROM and a gallery of photos. [via IntoMobile , MadRamblings ]

M600 makes Motorola’s Backflip no longer unique

Motorola’s Android handset Backflip sells on China mainland market as ME600 at about $587 USD, a very high price for the majority. Now a maker from the heart of Shenzhai Shenzhen gives you another option to get a ‘backflip’, of curse, for a much cheaper price. With only 600 Yuan or $88 USD from your pocket, you can take one unit of this Shenzhen edition ‘backflip’ M6oo home, which is a completely rip-off of Motorola Backflip. The body is a little thicker, but the design is just can’t be more similar. Even the Motorola logo is not lacking on it. When coming to the specs, there’s not much to talk about. It’s based on a MTK chipset, so the features it comes with are little different to what you would find on other MTK platform based phone. You will get stuffs like dual sim support, Java, a camera with resolutions around 0.3 megapixel, FM radio, Bluetooth connectivity, etc. [ source ] Motorola Cliq clone named as Rola V19 Motorola MT710 OPhone for China Mobile New MOTOROLA Concept design got cloned

No data network?

I have received my iPhone through the mail today and I called (866) 499-8008 to activate my device. After it was activated, I tried to go online without using the Wi-Fi... It says I have no data subscription, but I'm sure I had it because it was automatically added to my plan when I first ordered the phone through the website. Someone help please?

A2DP profile questions

I realize this is an AT&T board, but I know you guys are so knowledgeable! I purchased a Jawbone bluetooth earpiece recently and I can't listen to podcasts or music on iPhone 3g with it. Does it not support A2DP, even though the iPhone does?   Also, before iPhone supported A2DP, I purchased 2 bluetooth dongles that allowed me to listen to  those audio sources on phone. Do these dongles have another purpose? i.e. Do they have any resale value for another function?   Thank you for your response! :smileyhappy:
