Samsung Epic 4G: Rooted before Release – Download Links and Tutorial

Another day, another Android root to tell you about. This one is pretty significant though, as it is the Samsung Epic 4G , which will go on sale later today from Sprint. Will you root your device after purchasing? As reported from Phandroid , the Samsung Epic 4G follows other Galaxy S phones with a straight forward and easy to install root method. Credit goes to SDX for achieving the root, you can head to their forum here for a full set of download links and installation guide. What does this mean for the Epic 4G? Well, just like the Droid X, it means that a custom ROM may become available in the future, once developers have had time to play around with the device. The Droid X custom ROM took a while, but it’s finally out – we wonder how long it will take for the Epic 4G to follow suit. What are your thoughts on this? Are you planning to root your device or not? More On: samsung , Samsung Epic 4G , sprint For more coverage: Follow Product Reviews on Twitter Become a Fan on Facebook

Motorola: No Official Android 2.2 Upgrade From Leaked ROM For Droid X [Motorola Says Official Droid X Android 2.2 Update Won’t Work For Those Who…

With just about every device on the market, it isn’t long before the community gets their hands on it and manages to undo all of the security precautions put forth by the respective manufacturers. However, some devices prove themselves to be more resilient to hacking than other with Sony’s Playsation 3 video game console and Motorola’s Droid X smart phone for Verizon being perfect examples. Keepin’ it real fake: a Moto Droid for WinMo diehards

Being able to combine the best of both worlds is something of a shanzhai strong suit. Unfortunately, we don't see conjuring up a Droid with Windows Mobile 6.5 as the best of both worlds. As for the phone itself, it holds up pretty well, with a 533MHz Huawei Hass K3 processor, 256MB memory, 3 megapixel camera, 3.5-inch (800x480) display, dual SIM cards (GSM 900 / 1800) , and the usual GPS, WiFi, and FM receiver. But is it as mind-bending as an iPhone that runs Android ? We'll let you be the judge of that. Get a closer look after the break. Motorola Kobe to join AT&T’s Android arsenal?

The Motorola Kobe, also known as the MB520, looks to be a mid-level Android phone that’s beginning to show its face. Looking to be directly attached to AT&T’s network, and Engadget's tipster says it's running the same sort of “Philblur” hybrid UI that is found on both the Droid X and Droid 2 .

Froyo-inspired custom lockscreen available for droid x users on android 2.1… (IntoMobile via TechNews AM)

Hey DROID X owners, we realize that not everyone upgraded to Android 2.2 when it leaked this past week. Froyo for Droid X Leaked

Droid X owners, you'll probably be getting a Froyo update OTA sooner rather than later, but if you need it now and want to take matters into your own hands, you can do so . Keep in mind: this is a likely unfinished, probably still buggy pre-release version of Froyo for the Droid X that leaked out. You may encounter problems. You may brick your device. But you may want to go ahead and flash it anyway, knowing all that. The build includes Google's new Voice Actions as well as Flash. You don't need to be rooted to use this upgrade, but if you are, it's possible to apply it without losing root access. Just follow the direction in MyDroidWorld's tutorial . Boy Genius Report created a short video demo of the 2.2 build: Click here to view the embedded video. If you've got 2.2 up and running on your Droid X, let us know how it's running in the comments. NOTE: Froyo for Droid X Leaked originally appeared on AndroidGuys .

Developers buy out remaining Nexus One stock

Some sad news today from the Android Developers Blog: the Nexus One is out of stock. We’ve known for some time that the supply for the general public had run dry , but the blow was alleviated by the fact that the phone would continue to be available to developers. Well, that was the plan, at least. A couple of weeks ago, we arranged that registered developers could buy an unlocked Nexus One via their publisher page in Android Market. We think it’s a good development platform and a nice phone. Apparently, you agree. Somewhat too many of you, in fact; we blew through the (substantial) initial inventory in almost no time, and they’re back-ordered from HTC, who are doing a pretty good job of managing runaway success amid a worldwide AMOLED shortage. Everyone appreciates that it’s important to the platform to get phones in the hands of developers, so we’re working hard on re-stocking the shelves; stand by. Tim Bray Android Developers Blog Hopefully they’ll be able to get their hands on another batch and meet the demand but with screen shortages and a new phone coming out every few weeks there’s no telling how long we could be waiting. It’s Friday, boys. Pour one out for the best phone your friends have never heard of.
