Polarbilt has raced their way to over a million downloads

Polarbit announced earlier today that their applications in the Android Market have been downloaded over a million times. Congratulations to them on such a successful few months and as we are already seeing a second round of 3D games from them I’m sure two million won’t be far off. I freely concede I suck at math, but as they first debuted on the market on December 18th of last year that means they are averaging 12,346 (I rounded up) downloads a day. Granted a huge percentage of those are likely the free “lite” versions of their games, but just for funsies let’s imagine that 8% of the downloads were paid versions, that would come out to about $360,000 in 81 days. (Please note this is total supposition and I have no idea how many were paid downloads.) This coupled with the recent news that the maker of “Car Locator” is taking in approximately $13,000 a month could help to finally turn developer opinion regarding the potential profitability of the Android Market. The Game Developer’s Conference is going on today and tomorrow and as we reported in January every early registrant is receiving a Nexus One or Droid . All developer’s meeting a minimum threshold of 5,000 downloads while maintaining a 3.5 star rating were also recently gifted with one of these two devices . The Android NDK Revision 3.0 that just landed yesterday has Open GL ES 2.0 support providing developer’s with the t0ols to create better looking and functioning games. Google appears to be doing what they can to get the necessary hardware and tools in place for developer’s to create a new wave of high quality apps and games for the Android Market. To borrow from Steve Job’s lexicon for a moment, do you think that the Android Market “gold rush” is finally upon us? No data network?

I have received my iPhone through the mail today and I called (866) 499-8008 to activate my device. After it was activated, I tried to go online without using the Wi-Fi... It says I have no data subscription, but I'm sure I had it because it was automatically added to my plan when I first ordered the phone through the website. Someone help please?

A2DP profile questions

I realize this is an AT&T board, but I know you guys are so knowledgeable! I purchased a Jawbone bluetooth earpiece recently and I can't listen to podcasts or music on iPhone 3g with it. Does it not support A2DP, even though the iPhone does?   Also, before iPhone supported A2DP, I purchased 2 bluetooth dongles that allowed me to listen to  those audio sources on phone. Do these dongles have another purpose? i.e. Do they have any resale value for another function?   Thank you for your response! :smileyhappy:

BBC to release iPhone apps

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is planning to deliver sports and news content via iPhone applications from April this year. The apps for Apple devices will be followed by versions for RIM 's BlackBerry handsets and Google 's Android software. Sky and the Daily Telegraph already offer free apps for the same purpose, whereas the Guardian charges £2.39 for its applications. The BBC said that the move is being made because more and more people are using "sophisticated handheld devices" to view content. The move will raise tensions with publishers of paid-for content or content supported by other means. "Whilst the BBC's impulse to enter an already crowded news and sport apps market place is understandable, the move belies the fundamentally competitive nature of the Corporation's approach to new services," Emily Bell , director of digital content at the Guardian, told BBC News . "Applications are a long way away from being 'broadcast' media, and, unlike the web, they form a market which the BBC is seeking to disrupt." Erik Huggers , BBC director of future media and technology, shook off the stance by saying the BBC audience "want to access the digital services that they have paid for at a time and place that suits them" . He said the BBC intends to catch up with its audience. The BBC News app will offer content from the BBC News website including audio and video feeds. Users will also be able to send comments and pictures directly to the news room. The BBC Sports app will be released well in time for the World Cup, and so will focus on football content first. No mention of apps for Symbian was made yet - although there is a Symbian application for the BBC iPlayer already available. Permalink | Comments

Google bietet Euch Android kostenlos an. Microsoft verlangt für Windows Phone 7 Geld. Welches nehmt Ihr? ALK CoPilot Live Adds Local Search to Android, Windows Mobile

ALK Technologies, the developer behind CoPilot Live , announced that its v8 GPS navigation ap p will now feature integrated access to local search across all smartphone platforms. It turns out the company already offered this, but as a premium service. Now the app, which is already a pretty good deal, comes with it standard. There's one catch: while Android and Windows Mobile users get to play right away, with free updates available for existing owners, iPhone users of CoPilot Live will have to wait for an official Apple App Store update. Gotta love those darn approval processes.
